Wine and Cheese Anyone?

It’s time to take a load off, relax and sample some wines from around the world and compliment that with some tasty cheeses picked by our Royal Oak Jaycee Connoisseurs Lauren and Rebecca.

We will be sampling different wines from different countries (such as Italy, Germany and France) and pair it with a variety of cheeses, as well as other appetizers. The event date will be Saturday May 9th @ 7pm. Prospective members are encouraged to come and current members are encouraged to bring a guest as this is a fundraising event. The more the merrier. Please contact International VP Rebecca at 248-890-0172 if you are interested in attending or have questions. Cost is $15 per person and includes 5 tastings of the wine of your choice. Exceptional attire encouraged.

Easter Eggstravaganza!!!

We are hosting an Easter party for the kids at South Oakland Shelter. The South Oakland Shelter is a wonderful organization in Royal Oak that provides food and shelter for families in metro detroit. We will be playing games, easter egg hunt, crafts, having an Easter Bunny come and give out Easter baskets to the kids. The event will be so much fun and put smiles on the children faces. Feel free to contact Community VP Natalie Diamond with any questions. We would love to have prospective members come and participate with us.

Social Information Night

We are going strong into the year now and have many great projects going on so far this year. Come and check out these projects and our organization on Thursday, March 19th @ 7pm at our monthly GMM.

If you are between 21 and 40, like doing social & community projects and building leadership skills then the Royal Oak Jaycees is probably for you.
You don’t have to live in Royal Oak to join our chapter, but most of our projects are run in and around Royal Oak. Contact us if interested in coming to check us out.

The RO Jaycees Go Marching In!

The Royal Oak Jaycees will be out in the community this Saturday, March 14th walking in the Royal Oak St. Patrick’s day parade. We will be walking in a group with the Royal Oak Jaycees banner and socializing at a local establishment afterwards.
We will be meeting at Royal Oak Middle School
at 11:30AM to start the parade.

March Spotlight Project: Crawl for a Cause

Come join the fun for a good cause! The Royal Oak Jaycees
will host a Pub Crawl to raise funds for Ian McPherson who
was recently paralyzed in a motorcycle accident. Ian is the brother
of new Royal Oak Jaycees member Lauren McPherson. Everyone
is invited to attend. Please come out and support this local cause.

contact Aaron if interested in joining us on this crawl. The more the Merrier!

Thanks to International VP Rob Johnson, the Royal Oak Jaycees will be represented in the 2009 Royal Oak St. Patrick’s Day parade this year. The parade will be March 14th at 12pm and going from Royal Oak Middle School to Pronto on Washington Street. After the parade chapter members will also be hanging out at a local pub, (Location TBD) just to have good times and speak to anyone interested in becoming a member or hearing about the great things that we do. Alternative Investments Seminar

Management VP Ben Parr will be giving a presentation on using alternative investments in your portfolio to reduce market risk and enhance returns at our next General Membership Meeting (GMM).
Likely topics will include using structured notes, alternative asset classes, and alternative strategies. In addition to being our Management Vice President, Ben is also a financial planner.

The next GMM will be February 19th @ 7pm and Ben will do his 20 minute presentation at approximately 7:30pm. Our GMM’s are held at the Salter Center (Boys & Girls Club) in Royal Oak. Dress for this GMM is business casual please. Look forward to seeing you there.

Valentines for Vets community Project

I am proud to announce that on February 11th 2009 a crew of our motivated chapter members will be making Valentine’s Day cards for Veterans of the local VFW Hall here in Royal Oak. This project is managed by Angela & CDVP Natalie, and is our way of letting the local veterans know that we appreciate what they have done for us and our country. Hi Royal Oak Jaycees and guests! We have a few projects coming up that I welcome and encourage you to attend…

  • On Sunday, February 1st @ 5:30pm we have the International Super Bowl Potluck. Several of us are getting together to watch the superbowl, and enjoy international potluck dishes and beverages from around the world. Contact Rebecca if interested. 

  • On Thursday, February 5th around 8pm we will be attending a Brew & View night out at the Magic Bag in Ferndale. This starts at 8pm. Contact Aaron Smith if interested. 

  • We will be holding a social information night for all prospective members interested in the Royal Oak Jaycees at Tom’s Oyster bar on Tuesday February 17th @ 6:30pm. We love to expand our membership and welcome you to come and see what we’re about. Contact Aaron Smith with questions. 

  • Our next General Membership Meeting is Thursday February 19th @ 7pm.
    It will be held at the Salter Center (Boys & Girls Club) in Royal Oak. This is a business meeting where we meet monthly to discuss upcoming projects.
    February’s GMM features a professional presentation by our Management VP Ben Parr. Ben is a Financial Planner & will discuss Alternative Investments. This GMM will be business casual dress.

  • We will be making Valentines Day cards to pass out to the Veteran’s at the Royal Oak VFW hall. The committee meeting will be Sunday January 25th. Contact Angela if you would like to join us and participate in this project. 

  • Be on the lookout for  “Crawl for the Cause.” We will be holding a pub crawl in downtown Royal Oak on March 28th to benefit a disabled young man in our community.  Proceeds will go to his care and expenses. Contact Aaron Smith for details
